BIOGRAPHY:

Dr. Mackenzie Rice attended her Doctoral program at Michigan School of Psychology and has been in the mental health field for over 10 years. She views therapy as a healing journey that is uniquely tailored to an individual’s personal needs. Dr. Mackenzie’s approach is to create a supportive and collaborative environment that entails working together to address various challenges. She believes in empowering clients to take an active role in their healing, helping them build the skills and resilience needed to achieve their personal goals in therapy. Dr. Mackenzie aims to guide clients towards a path of growth and well-being, where individuals feel more confident and capable of navigating life’s challenges.

Additionally, she works with a wide variety of populations such as children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. She also enjoys helping women through infertility issues, birth trauma, postpartum depression, anxiety, and other related challenges that arise with becoming a new mother. Dr. Mackenzie is also passionate about helping children, adolescents and adults with trauma. Often, individuals do not realize that they have experienced trauma until they enter the therapeutic process.

Dr. Mackenzie utilizes play therapy to help children process traumatic events, anxiety, depression, and behavioral modification. She views play therapy as a developmentally appropriate form of counseling designed specifically for children. Children communicate their thoughts and emotions through the interactions of play. In play therapy, toys, art, games, and creative expression are used to help children process emotions, work through trauma, develop coping skills, and improve behavior. She also uses a multisystemic approach with children which consists of involving parents, and coordinating care with teachers or other additional providers for children who need extra support.

She also enjoys working with couples and aims at strengthening couples’ connection, improving communication, and rebuilding trust using evidence-based approaches like Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and The Gottman Method. EFT focuses on the emotional bond between partners, helping couples identify patterns of disconnection and replace them with secure, supportive interactions. It’s especially effective for couples facing conflict, distance, or unresolved wounds. The Gottman Method brings practical tools and research-based strategies to improve communication, manage conflict, and increase intimacy. Couples learn how to truly listen, understand one another’s needs, and build a foundation of friendship, trust, and shared meaning. Whether you’re facing a specific challenge or simply want to grow together, couples therapy can help you move from frustration to connection and build a stronger, more resilient relationship.

She will be offering psychological testing, which includes ADHD evaluations, Autism Testing, Bariatric Assessments, and several other types of testing that are not listed. Please reach out to inquire about these services.

Personally, Dr. Mackenzie enjoys nature, running, and spending time with her family/Golden Retriever.
